Try Just 4 Things, Consistently, When It Feels Like God’s Not Hearing You

Through the storms of life.
Through the winds and rains.
Through the confusion and strife.
Through the floods of pain.
Through the stripping away of all that you knew.
You’re left wondering what to do.
It almost feels like it’s more than you can bear.
But know it’s not, because despite, what it looks like,
God is still there.

Like David in Psalms 22:1, you wonder “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” But, I want to encourage you, that despite the chaotic sounds of the happenings around you that can make it quite difficult to hear that still small voice which indicates the presence of The Lord, He is still there. Whether it was a literal storm, the whirlwind battle with illness, a bitter cold fall out with a partner or family member, God is there. According to Psalm 139:7,9 MSG “Is there any place I can go to avoid Your Spirit? to be out of Your sight? If I climb to the sky, You’re there! If I go underground, You’re there!” Beloved, there’s no getting away from Him! You are not alone! God is there!

Yes, you’re tired. Tired of feeling abandoned. Tired of feeling too helpless to do what needs to be done. Tired of being misunderstood. This, however, is the very time to forget and forgive the people who disappointed you, never give up on life, but instead look up to God. So, I’d like to offer you a few tips on looking up to God, a little differently than how you may have been doing so up to now. You may have been crying out to Him, and not hearing Him, but here’s the thing… you haven’t been able to hear Him through the screams of fear, nor see Him through the streams of tears. Yet, God is there. And, once you receive His peace that only He can give, quieting the storms within you, He will L.I.F.T. you up. The first thing you can do is allow yourself to…

Let it All Out

Yes, He already knows everything about you, how you feel, what you think, and the words you will say before they cross your lips. Regardless of Him knowing everything, just let it out. Know that because He knows everything that He already has the comfort, healing, strategies, and solutions you need in your situation. All of the things that He will reveal to you in due time. Express your hurt & pain, the raw vulnerable sensitivities of your heart. Respectfully let Him know what you’re feeling. Tell Him why you think you feel it. Ask Him for what you think you need. Let the pressure that’s building within you out in that safe place with just you and Him. He wants to hear you, so God is there. And, then you’ll be relieved to rest quietly in His presence as you…

Invite Him Near

James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you…” Beloved, it’s ok to admit to God that you need Him. There’s nothing wrong with asking Him to come near, not just to solve your situation, but to help you to feel His presence. Now, you may be wondering that if He’s really already there, why do you have to ask Him to come near? Because God is like a watchful parent, who watches their children when they aren’t even noticing. The children are off doing their own thing, and have yet to take a break to talk to The Father. Sometimes we can look and see that our parent is at the window looking out at us, but we are either too far or too distracted by the noise of what we are immersed in, to hear what the parent has to say. Drawing closer to Him will help you to experience God’s presence that you know is there, but can’t seem to currently feel.

A time may come when you have no idea what to say to “let it all out.” That’s ok too. For Romans 8:26,27 reminds us that “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” This is a blessed benefit of being in the presence of God. That even when you have no idea what to say, maybe you have no idea why you feel the way you do, the Holy Spirit can stand in the gap for you until you reach a new level of clarity in your heart. He will give you strength and strategy; restoration and resolution; and empowerment for endurance. Ask Him to let you experience His presence, since God is there. It also helps to bless The Lord at all times, including the tough ones, when you…

Fascinate in His Glory

Circumstances good and bad, come and go. They change with the shifting winds. They are up and then down. They are stable and then chaotic. God, on the other hand, is a steady Rock. James 1:17 tells us that “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.” The presence of God is a gift that embodies gifts! And, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What this means is that despite the bitterness of our experiences, it’s possible to still praise the sweetness of The Lord; acknowledging Him for who He is, what He’s done, and what He can do. Because what you go through doesn’t and can’t change how wonderful and awesome the keeper of our souls truly is. Seeds are planted to reap a harvest of joy when you proclaim His name to others, but this is also so when no one else is around to give you renown. Thank Him for being with you, because God is there. Because when you truly worship The Lord, it’s never in what have you done for me lately, but it’s simply trusting in Him with sincere acts to…

Trace His Goodness

There’s a popular phrase that says “Trust God when you can’t trace Him.” I would like to give you a shift in perspective, however, that will help you to always trace Him. To trace someone is, not just to follow where they are going, but to also see where they have been. Beloved, God has left an impeccably impressive trail of His good works that He’s done for others! Many in His Word, The Bible, but also in the testimonies of some others around you. Many will be in the past. Some may be recent things God’s doing for others. They can remind you of how good and faithful God is, and not just for them, but for you too! Remember His faithfulness, because God is there.

Whatever it is you are going through. Whatever has you feeling let down. God can L.I.F.T. you up. Let it all out, bearing your heart to Him. Invite Him near and His presence will calm your fears, and incrementally turn your sorrows into Joyful tears. Fascinate in His Glory with praise and worship, because God is good all the time and all the time God is good. And, you will see this as you continually Trace His Goodness. The more you do this, beloved, the more you’ll begin to recognize and experience His hand of favor upon your life, even during trials. The more you will trust Him. The more you will realize that He is true and faithful to His Word where He says in Hebrews 13:5, “…Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Then you will be able to say, as stated in Hebrews 13:6 “…with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid…” Because, you are not alone, beloved! God is there!

May The Father, who loves you more than you can ever imagine, help you to sense His love that is so high and so wide around you. May you embrace within your heart that His love is a love that “… neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate [you] from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38,39) I pray that The Lord gives you His peace that surpasses all understanding, and will guard your heart and mind in Jesus so that you will gain and maintain a mind and heart of Christ no matter the happenings around you, helping you to overcome every challenge in your path. May He LIFT you up in the lightness of His Spirit, inspiring you to say on each new day in which His mercies are new, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” (Psalm 23:6)

In Jesus Name. Amen.

How to Know When to Let Go

A pursuit at holding onto something or someone you’re afraid of losing. Endeavors to attempt to regain something or someone you’ve lost. Efforts at trying to obtain something or someone you’ve never had but desire. These are all areas wherein the question that arises, after a long quest of trying, is: when is it time to let go? This may sound a little pessimistic to some, but one thing I hope you’ll appreciate is that God loves you too much to leave you on what may be a dead end road. So, hang in here with me the rest of the way, and may God open the eyes of your heart to be enlightened by His illumination of the blessings He has stored up for you. As hard as it is to let something or someone go, when it comes to what God has waiting to give you, once your hands are free, and though you may not be able to fathom it now, it will result in being the greatest thing you’ve ever done.

It can be common to feel overwhelmed, desperate, anxious, and irritable because what you’ve longed for seems like it will never happen. It can zap your energy, enthusiasm, and self-esteem, making you want to throw in the towel on everything. But, I want to let you know that two things you should never give up on are LIFE and GOD! Despite what may not be working for you, God has something greater for you ahead both right here in the land of the living and for eternal life beyond.

We know that with God all things are possible, right? So, why even consider when it’s time to let something or someone go? Because, unfortunately in the realities of life filled with the invigorating and the disappointing, it is possible to have faith for the wrong things. Unfortunately, when this happens, and faith seems not to work like a person thinks it should, I’ve seen them give up on God. This is a tragedy, when it really wasn’t anything wrong with God, who He is and how He works. It’s simply a misunderstanding of who and how He operates in our lives.

It’s helpful to begin with knowing that God is a God of progress and of growth. He is a God that provides increase. What this means is that because we are created in His image and likeness, we too, are beings whose lives undergo a growth process for progress towards all we’re created to be. Every butterfly had to once let go of its caterpillar stage to increase its ability of movement with flight. The dragon fly lets go of what’s not working for him anymore by positively responding to the pressures of a shell that’s too small by breaking through it to free his increase. No, these transitions of letting go aren’t easy. Have you ever really looked into the process of a butterfly’s metamorphosis? Before it has any view of how its future will be, within the cocoon its essence is broken down into liquids to begin the process of becoming that butterfly. Yes, it’s painful to feel like letting go will break you down. But, it’s taking you towards an authentic essence of who you are, making and molding you, to prepare you for the beautiful outcome that’s in front of you! Beloved, whatever it is you’re holding onto, it may be a shell that’s too small. It may be a stage & season of your life that’s beneath the level you are suppose to be soaring at… if only you will let go.

Now, I’m intentionally saying, “it may be…”, so how do you truly know if it is time to let go? You can begin by checking to see if you and God are on the same page.

Match of Wills Prevents Stand Stills

First & foremost, like a child wanting a cigarette verse a frozen yogurt popsicle, what you desire to achieve and receive is affected by if it is in the Will of God for you. This is not to say that what is in the Will of God will be easy to obtain or maintain. As a matter of fact, that is so far from the truth because the enemy will oppose almost every move you make, attempting to block you from doing what God destined you to do. There’s a way, however, to determine whether or not what comes against you is God saying no. Or, if He’s saying yes and it’s the enemy trying to block you.

If somehow you ended up outside of The Father’s desires for you, you’ll notice He’s lovingly corrective. In addition to that correction, you will look back in hindsight, seeing that He has already previously given you several warnings before hand by informing you with needed knowledge to enable you to make the wisest decisions. In these cases, in which you are chasing what is not in God’s Will for you, you’ll find yourself noticing and accurately saying more often than not; “It’s not working.” In sincerely seeking His heart’s desire for you, if you’re noticing these things: Let Go. He has something better for you!

In contrast, when you’re faithfully following God’s design, the enemy uses things like slander, deceit, gossip, and manipulative trickery to hold you back from what you are pursuing. If you find this is the case, remember God is Sovereign and all powerful and never needs to fight dirty to get you to do what He wants you to do! So, HOLD ON TIGHT, IN FAITH! Whatever it is for you, that God wants you to do, DO NOT DROP THIS! The Lord is truthful. He will not tell you something then change His mind. And, as does a proud parent, He will often confirm the good steps you take in pursuing your endeavors.

Right Means to an End, End Rightly

Since He is a God of Righteousness, He will not approve of steps taken in deceit or underhandedness. As you walk with Him according to His leading, you will receive Divine assistance, from God and the Angels that do His bidding. In other words, He will guide you towards taking righteous actions towards what you are pursuing. And, He will keep you safe from harm, comfort you, and encourage you when the challenges from the enemy seem insurmountable. If you are considering or actually pursuing something using means that are against the Will of God, that opportunity is not for you: Let go.

Reasons Affects Seasons

Your “Why” is BIG! Intentions are important to God. Your right motives, motivates God. Your heartfelt desire to help others. Your sincerity that if the person had none of that external stuff, you’d still love, protect, & care for them because of the goodness within them. Intentions, that clearly say, “God, this for Your Glory and not mine.” These types of respectable motives will move God to begin to move His Hand of Favor over your situations, moving out the dividing tactics of the enemy.

James 4:3 tells us that when we ask God for something, there are times, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” At times one’s personal desire is to be seen in a good light, to look good. To be perceived as prestigious, monetarily blessed, successful, or well liked. Sometimes, it’s to appease desires of what a parent wants for you instead of what God wants for you. God gave you a creative talent that spurs you to want to be a film producer, but they insisted you go to medical school and become a doctor. Or, you’re pursuing a relationship, not because a genuine love and appreciation exists for the nature of the person’s heart, but the money they may make, the recognition they achieve, or the connects they have could boost your status. Thus, the struggles and obstacles mount. In these cases, your motives calls for a personal reflection with God so you can begin to see yourself as He sees you, which is you’re; significant, talented, and complete in Him, therefore you need not seek it anywhere else but on the inside of you! So, Let go.

Non-Stop Rise to the Top

At times, in pursuit of things, we can make mistakes, and end up in very unsavory situations. Possibly, you had right intentions to enter into a partnership, but later realized it was a mistake. Maybe, an unfortunate occurrence happened because you forgot to consult with someone on your team or seek God’s thoughts on the situation, and you or others took actions, that produced undesirable results, without pertinent information. Or, you’ve survived the worst of a personal romantic encounter, but now know it was never supposed to be. Regardless of how the mishap happened, all is not lost. We serve a merciful God who can, and is faithful to, work good out of your mistakes! There only needs to be a willingness to let Him help you. Secondly, all the regret, guilt, or shame, only holds you back, and has no place once you give Him your ashes to allow Him to turn them into a crown of beauty, so hand them over to Him: Let go.

What I’m about to refer to next, I’m sure you have heard several times; let go of past hurts. There is never a good reason to hold on to them. As a matter of fact, the plans of God for your life, once you focus on them can help you to move forward in saying as Paul did in Philippians 3:13, “…I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead”. It’s easier said than done, as you still holding onto that anger towards those involved, and feel like your life will never recover. But that’s a lie from the pit! Let me tell you, beloved, thinking like that drains power from you and puts it right into the hands of the enemy. Understand, that when you yield to God, allowing Him to lead you, to heal you, to redeem you, no disappointments, no let downs, no mistakes can stop you or hold you down. You can still rise above the storm clouds that put a dreary overcast of your life in your eyes. Put down the desire to ruin someone else’s life because you think they ruined yours. Because that kind of pursuit is what would actually ruin your life. Trust that anything you’ve lost, God never made it a significant part of your future. It was in your life for a reason for a season. Then, you’ll begin to notice a relief come upon you as you: Let go and move forward.

Maybe this has helped you to confirm that you’re right on point, to hold on to all that is right for you. And, that is certainly my prayer for you. But, if you realize that you’re holding a part of your life in a cage, Let Go. Because you deserve the hopeful future that’s Divinely stored up waiting for you. You can start to align your will with Gods, letting go of anything opposite. Ensure the ways you achieve your desires have respectable means to an end, releasing methods that are actually holding you back. Secure your future with motives that motivates God to release blessings into your life, letting go of any that blocks blessings. And, remember when including God in your life, no matter what’s happened before, you can still ride with Him non-stop to the top, letting go of the past.

To evaluate a bit deeper, when you have more time to contemplate, here’s something to help you determine what or who you may need to Let Go. All questions may not apply to you, but the one or more that may, can begin to produce great breakthroughs for you!

  1. How does the endeavor or person you’re pursuing, or attempting to keep, fit into God’s Will for you?
  2. What are your motives for pursuing that goal or that person? Why do you want it/him/her?
  3. In your actions taken to achieve your desired outcome, how has each action encouraged, enhanced, nourished, and protected others involved?
  4. Without wishing for the restoration of what was good before the mistake or disappointment happened, how would you like to see your life improve from this point forward?

As you begin to prayerfully do this, being transparently honest with yourself and God, and Let Go of all that is unnecessary, I’m believing your latter days will be greater than your former!

Post Election – Soothing for Sorrowful Souls

american-flag-faces436x245In the aftermath of our nation’s 2016 presidential election night and intertwined through the shouts of chanting cheers “let’s make America great again”, there are murmurs in the hearts of people saying, “what’s going to happen to America? What’s going to happen to us?”  These are questions many are asking, not only in the boundaries of our nation’s boarders, but also abroad. Some are in distress for feeling embarrassed that this choice was made by the American people. Disheartened and disenchanted from the illusion that has been blown away by the harsh winds of the campaign revealing the hidden sores of bigotry, hatred, division, and disrespect, it’s important and soothing to the sorrowful soul to understand that there is still hope.

In spite of truth revealed, we must not let our hearts trouble us.  Proverbs 29:25 states “fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” So, don’t go into self imposed exile into other countries, running away from what looks to be the worse outcome.  Let’s not deny the power of God that can exponentially strengthen us to do what we can, within our reach as citizens in our political system and in our daily lives. Let’s not forget to do what’s in His will to exemplify the love He represents to fight the spread of fury that threatens to rise. Let’s not live in apprehension about things we cannot control. For even in the event of the nations conspiring, raging, and plotting, they do so in vain as we look to God, who is enthroned on high. Even in the instance of nation rising against nation, we will prevail!

What it looks like is not what it is. God is up to something that will work together for the good, even when it seems the unthinkable has happened. Order, governmental guidance, and appropriate submission to authority is needed. We, as a people, however, have a voice in what our nation’s leaders do, and as a people of God, must keep the One who is Alpha and the Omega, first in all we do, letting Him have the last say in situations where we are unable to do anything. For, as stated in Psalm 33:12; “blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance.” God is a God of unity. He will not stand for division.

In 1 Corinthians 3, we see how God addresses through the Apostle Paul how the fights due to preferring one leader of the church over others was causing division amongst the people. To keep the story short, they were being told that each leader has their purpose, and though some are artificial and superficial and cause division within the church, there will be fitting consequences.  And, ultimately, it is God who causes increase in areas of growth in the church.  Though many think that the church is limited to buildings, the church actually is the people who make up the Body of Christ within the nations. Whether we all go to one church building or several around the world, we are “one united” in the Body of Christ. Trust that due to it being God’s Will for us all to be one in unity, He will protect us from worsened incarceration, forms of segregation, heartless deportation, civil & national confrontation, and other deeds that disrupts the togetherness of us as a people; a people in which God shows no favoritism because He loves us all.

So, concern yourself not to the point of distress and restlessness about the leader we should have had and the leader we now have.  For, in the beginning, there was darkness.  In the beginning, there was only deep waters. Yet, in the beginning our Creator spoke forth light and land.  When He speaks, He makes things happen. Thus, He can even overturn plans and decisions of nations. The Lord can reverse any curse. Therefore, take heart, Child of God. You are chosen. Let Christ remain in you, you in Him, allowing His peace to reign. His Word will not return void, as in Psalm 33:18,20; “The Lord watches over His followers… He helps us and protects us.”  Regardless of whose hands America seems to be in, you are still in God’s Good Hands.  You are covered.

Beauty is in the Inner Workings

About four months ago, I did what’s called the “big chop”! That’s a phrase that is popularly used among African American women who have decided to forgo hair relaxers that would alter our natural curl to make it straight. For decades I have used hair relaxers, and my hair was somewhat a medium length. But, recently to get back to my natural texture, I chopped it off! Now instead of sporting 12 inch hair length, it’s more like three inches long when it’s curly. Not everyone was happy with what I did. Many had some unkind comments even if some were indirect. But, consider this… what if I had cancer and lost all of my hair from the treatment? What if I had a disease called Alopecia in which the consequences is hair loss due to my body’s immune system attacking my hair follicles? The most important thing, when the temporary disappears either by personal choice or otherwise, is that my inner person, my heart, is still the same. Though it may become stronger in the ways of the Lord, through such experiences, not basing my value or allowing others to determine my self-worth based on my looks, but tending to what’s on the inside of me is what lasts and what should be honorable unto the Lord. When that’s done, if I lose what’s on the outside, I cannot lose what’s on the inside, which stays with me, and cannot be taken away from me. We get a peek into what’s important to God in 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV; “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’ ” This is what we are to model our inner selves after.  This is what is to be evaluated in others, and what others should look for in you.  All after the heart of The Lord.  For in that, child of God, is where your innate joy and firm confidence resides!

Recently you may have been dealing with undue & unGodly criticism of your outward appearance.  Accused of being too thick.  You looked better with your hair…  He’s ugly…  Whatever the remarks have been, be reminded you that you are beautiful the way God made you! Those who negatively comment, expressing disdain for your outer appearance resent something about themselves, in addition to having an “inner spirit” that is not set on the things of God, but instead it is set on fleshly (no pun intended) things. 1 Peter 3:3,4 NIV says; “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” These verses teach us that we are to be concerned with things that are eternal & “unfading”, not temporary as are outward appearances. Of course this does not suggest we walk around unkempt. Nor does it mean, for those of us who have a natural talent and flare for style that we should not enjoy participating in dressing fashionably.  It also does not mean that we should not strive to keep our bodies healthy with periodic exercise and healthy eating habits, for our bodies are the dwelling places of the Spirit of the Most High God.  What these verses are advising is to place worth in that which is most important and lasting. Life is ever changing, as are people and their varying and unique opinions. If you measure your value by your looks, you will be unstable in your opinion of yourself, becoming a human version of a chameleon all in efforts to be accepted. In doing this, you continuously set yourself up for disappointment and exhaustion when you cannot consistently live up to what others expect of you.

In instances where you are in the presence of continuous opinionated negativity, being judged based on your appearance, stand strong in the Word of the Lord! Many blessings have been lost, missed, and forfeited due to choices made that were set upon the shaky and shifting grounds of outward appearances. This issue is not solely relative to personal relationships and outward beauty, but also equally applies to healthcare, educational, and business relationships in regards to race, gender, education level, ethnicity, and socioeconomic standing. You may be an experienced and well-prepared Mexican or African American nurse, but a patient didn’t want your services because you weren’t the race or ethnicity they desired.  Yet, you know in your heart of hearts, you are a Divinely designed nurturer and are great at your job.  I just read about a person who was desperately seeking direction from an adviser, but turned down the person available to him because the available person did not fit his external criteria for an adviser.  As this man experienced others he thought would fill his needs, he found they all came up short.  Could it be the one he’s been rejecting, based on outward appearances, is the very one who holds his blessing?  It certainly is possible.  Despite what a person thinks, despite if they have chosen or chooses to leave for another person who they think “looks” better, be confident in knowing that the most valuable blessing you bring to the people around you is what you carry in your spirit. If that is pleasing in The Lord’s sight and yet is not what they appreciate and see as valuable, let them go. God will send more suitable opportunities your way!

At this day and time, we still need to learn to look beyond what we perceive as external barriers to find the beauty within ourselves that connects us in unity.  As we push forth in that process of finding and living out the unity of the Love of God, when the unnecessary, the temporary, the fading, gets in the way, refuse to be set back. Resist trying to get them back. Renounce the feeling of being taken aback by such types of attack.  Stay in peace with an understanding that it’s not the bling on the outside, but your inner shine is what matters most.  And, simply pray that God will enter the hearts and have His way with your critics. Ignore their hurtful comments, leaving them in the hands of The Father, because you are made in the image & likeness of God, who penned your unique design, weaved you together in your mother’s womb, and spoke forth, “And it is Good!” Be assured that when the Word of the Lord is spoken, the Church says “Amen!” because it is so!

Until Your Change Arrives

HourglassI had a few conversations that touched upon the fact that the most recent generations don’t like to wait. We (including my generation, though not the most recent) want everything instantly. And in many things nowadays, that can be done with a quick flip of a plastic card and/or with a click of a button, whether it be on phones, on computers, or on TV. We’ve been dubbed the “microwave generations.” The ones who has no patience to wait for anything to marinate and cook the good ole traditional way. But what do you do when a life situation makes you wait for the change you want to see? There are no buttons to push. No magic plastic cards to take on the burden. Though the “microwave generations” have been mentioned here, I think this question can reach across diverse generations. What do you do until your change arrives?

Change is an inevitable part of life. It gets thrusted upon us when we would rather things stay the same. Jobs are lost. Relationships spring a nasty leak; maybe begin to sink. Health status take a turn in a downward direction. These often bring on an unexpected waiting period, even one that may take a bit longer than anticipated. Business or ministry not taking off. Shaking off a haunting habit has not been easy. Leaving a job you’d rather not be in, has so far taken 15 more months than expected. The lingering healing time of that surgery has even taken the doctor by surprise. Without allowing a weakening into a disintegration and a collapsing of your inner resolve, what do you do until your change arrives?

You Wait.

But Wait…! There’s more! When you feel like there’s nothing else you can do…

You can Wait!

Workout for Your Vision

I just mentioned once again that you can wait, so what exactly does that mean? Well… as with many words, the word “wait” has several definitions, but a select few will be discussed here from the perspective of Scripture. As Jeremiah struggled through some hardships and trying times, he wrote:

“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” Lamentations 3:22-25 KJV

The particular form of “wait” used in this verse is derived from a Hebrew word, qavah, which means “to expect, to look for”. That sounds familiar, but this word also means to “strain the mind… with an expectant attitude.” In other words, it can become difficult to keep hope for change to come. It’s very easy to give up and settle where you are. But just as a muscle doesn’t get stronger without the “strain” of weight against it; just as it atrophies if you don’t push through the pain of bearing that weight; your mind will begin to only see the current circumstances, and do nothing to bear your wait. It will settle into near sightedness, never reaching to see the best that stands ahead of you.

Yes, it is hard, but not impossible. God knew it would be difficult. If we look at what He said in Habakkuk 2:3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” The original Hebrew word for “wait” in this verse is chakah, and is related to another Hebrew word, called chaqah, which means “to carve”.  So, waiting can and sometimes will be excruciating. But keep your mind on a workout for your vision! Keep hoping! Keep believing, because just as God was faithful in Jeremiah’s and Habakkuk’s day, He is faithful to keep His promises to you now.

One Place Worth Waiting in Forever

Wait is also defined as “To continue to be in a place”, along with synonyms such as Abide and Dwell. In life, places change all the time. Sometimes not of our own will. At times, the place you’re in may feel like one of confinement from which you’d like to be freed. It is at these very times in which circumstances puts you into undesirable situations when it is safer to be in a place that never changes; abiding in the presence of God. Psalm 4:8 KJV says; “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”

Taking this a little further, King David also says in Psalm 16:11 KJV, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” So, not only will you experience the Father’s peace and rest, He will also show you paths as you progress through the tough waiting periods of life’s changes. Presence, according to the original Hebrew word in this verse, paneh, which means “face” was derived from panah, which means “to turn to face”. If you have already given your life and heart to Christ, you already know He’s promised to never leave you, nor forsake you. However, sometimes trials become distracting, causing us to pull away from God, seeking our own solutions and remedies that often fail us or make matters worse. So, though The Father has no literal face, because He is Spirit, during your waiting, and continuing even after, turn your spirit to face God, by seeking to know Him through His Word, prayer, and listening for His leading. He is wherever you are. There is no place where you cannot find His presence. You just need to turn to it. The answers you seek now, to the unraveled nerves and the overwhelming feelings, are in His presence. It is in His leading that the paths to solutions, strength, and joy will be revealed and released; the paths that are chunked into various destination levels representing every age and stage of your life. It is in taking time out of your busy schedule to be in His presence where you will rest and be restored. It is in His presence where you’ll feel most at home; for it is where we all belong. It is where you were originally created to dwell. It is the one place worth waiting in forever!

Wait On The Lord

The last definition I’d like to touch upon is the one in which the word “wait” means “To work and care for”. In other words, to “wait on”. One job that you can never lose, only forfeit, and that pays very well is to wait on The Lord, while you’re waiting on The Lord for your change to come, by allowing Him to use you right where you are, with what you already have. It’s as simple as a bit of a tweak to a common question from a waiter or waitress; “Good Day, My Lord. How can I serve You on this day You’ve made?” Then allow Him to lead you towards what will always be a selfless kind Kingdom task to improve and further Kingdom business here on earth. The assignment may be as simple as helping a disabled person off the bus, or volunteering to pass out church flyers. Or a directive to serve your current boss, no matter how difficult she or he may be, knowing that by doing your best work no matter the circumstances, you are serving The Lord who is truly your highest boss who holds your most valuable bonuses.

Every promotion requires the receiver to have gone through preparation before it’s offered to ensure the job can be done effectively and efficiently. Most change, if not all, calls for us to do something new when it arrives, something different. Whatever it is for you that’s going to be different, it’s going to require you to be prepared to be the best you can at it. Becoming a parent for the first time. Even becoming a parent an additional time is new because each child is different. Becoming a homeowner.  Becoming a spouse, whether it be for the first time, or a subsequent time, just as with becoming a parent again, is new because your spouse will be different.  Landing that supervisor position.  Transforming into a leader.  Getting you ready, putting things in order, arranging all that’s needed for you to step up to the next level, God will prepare you to be ready to rise higher, even in the presence of your doubters!  The greatest and most rewarding part of going through the waiting period of change does not reside in the arrival of the change in the external or physical circumstance, but the change within you.  Anything new requires preparation. So as you seek God’s face, let Him know you want Him to prepare you for where He’s taking you. You can start by taking some time to “… Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Habakkuk 2:2 KJV and from there “May this God of peace prepare you to do every good thing He wants…” (Hebrews 13:21 GWT) and open your eyes to see, your ears to hear, and your heart to understand all that’s needed for you to do to grasp all He has for you in this next phase you are entering! Amen!

When we are in waiting mode; waiting for our change to come, it can feel like the wait will never end. The one thing we can be sure of is to depend on and seek out the One who never changes. So many of us, including myself in the past, may respond to someone’s question somberly with, “Oh, I’m just waiting at this point.” The phrase “I’m just waiting…” can now hold a completely different meaning because there’s power in your faith in working out for your vision; holding on tightly to your hope! Things begin to shift when you wait in the presence of The Lord who throws His weight at what’s weighing on you. And, forward movement ensues as you realize that there is much you can do as you wait on The Lord, serving Him and allowing Him to prepare you for the change that’s approaching.  Until your change arrives, while being strengthened, renewed, and prepared… you can wait… Victoriously!

Prayer for Our Spiritual Leaders

praying togetherThe Lord impressed upon me this morning to write out this prayer, as well as to pray it, for our spiritual leaders who bear, like the Old Testament priests who wore heavy priestly garments adorned with stones upon the shoulders representing, the burdens of their people. Often we fail to remember our leaders in prayer. However, our pastors, priests, teachers, prophets, apostles, intercessors, elders, deacons, ministers of music, etc. bear their own personal burdens that many others aren’t privy to, and so they too need to be covered. The Lord Jesus’ power is more than enough but we are called to encourage and intercede for each other, because regardless of the hierarchical placement of our positions, we are all still… simply human.

So, in the spirit of unity and power of prayer in agreement, I ask you, at the sight of my words and ongoing, join me in this prayer for every man and woman of God in Jesus Christ, who’s been chosen to oversee our spiritual health and well-being.

Jehovah Tsidkenu, God our Righteousness; Jehovah Raphe, God our Healer,

We look unto you this day for guidance and strength for each and every spiritual leader you have placed over our lives. There is a weariness setting in that we dismantle, dispel, and disengage at this very moment! For they shall walk and not faint, they shall run and not stumble! We stand with You, and in obedience to You, Lord Jesus, in lifting up our leaders. We ask You, Oh Sovereign Lord, to send more Holy Spirit filled and led people to uphold their arms, as did Aaron and Hur for Moses, as our pastors and leaders fight in the spirit for all of us, helping us to claim the victory You’ve already won! By the power and authority You give us Lord Jesus, we stomp on the head of the spirit heaviness; trample any spirits of despair and cancel assignments of suicide! We come against any hexes, vexes, witchcraft & curses sent out against them! We call forth the strength in them that they can only get from You, Lord, our Strong Tower! We call forth unto them the garment of lasting and genuine praise from the belly of their souls! We call forth in Your leaders, Father God, the mind of Christ! We call forth in them new fresh vision and revelation that maintains restraint, invokes healing, and ushers in restored life for them as well as for the remnants you’ve placed under their auspices! May Your chosen ones, Oh God, the shepherds of Your sheep be covered by the Blood of Jesus; surrounded by Your consuming fire that will burn up any demonic attacks against them or their families, for no weapon formed against them shall be able to prosper!

We give You all the glory right now Magnificent & Mighty God! You deserve all the honor for what is already declared and decreed by the breath of Your mouth and therefore it is finished! It shall manifest in the natural, for Your Word, Oh Lord, shall not return void!

In Jesus’, our Lord and Savior, Great and Holy Name.
