7 Tips to Busting Prayer Blockers & Boost Your Blessings

What does your blessings look like to you? Casting that mountain you face out of your way? Commanding the storm around you to quiet down and be still? Does it look similar to finding a coin is a fish’s mouth that’s worth enough to pay your bills? What ever they look like for you, know that you’ve got what it takes to have patience through the mission to work with God to boost your blessings into fruition. It may not resemble a resolution in one fell swoop. Instead, it may be something God does that gets you around your mountain. Maybe He’ll place the peace inside of you while the winds & rains continue. Or, it could be provision via the unconventional while you’re expecting the conventional. In any case, no matter how God answers, He answers prayer. This is something I wish I had known about prayer years ago.

Just about a year before I recommitted my life to Christ, and during a trying occurrence that was happening in my life at the time, I had given up on prayer in that situation. I was frustrated, and had told my aunt who encouraged me to pray, “If God was going to answer, He would have answered by now.” Little did I know that God always answers prayer. He always gives a “Not Now”, a “No’, or a “Yes”, according to your best well-being. And, sometimes He answers at a time in which we think it’s too late, but because of His all knowing Sovereignty, it’s the perfect time. The problem back then was that I didn’t stay with it long enough to hear or recognize the answers He was giving. I also wasn’t aware of the blockers that often come to discourage us from praying, or those that obstruct answers.

Fast forward to the present, several years later, having come closer to God, I often say my greatest regret wasn’t doing it earlier because since I have, I’ve simply been astonished at the Presence and Power of God in my life. Even in recent times, of having a dear family member battle through a hospital/rehab back & forth cycle, totaling 4 straight months away from home, God showed Himself mighty in all His Glory, in addition to other situations, through answered prayer. My uncle is home now, getting stronger and steadily recovering, thankfully for all the prayers that went up on his behalf and opened the windows of Heaven for The Lord’s miracle and healing virtue to flow.

In Luke 18:1,7-8 ERV “…Jesus taught the followers that they should always pray and never lose hope… God’s people shout to Him night and day, and He will always give them what is right. He will not be slow to answer them. I tell you, God will help His people quickly…” But, too often, we get tired, impatient, or think He’s not listening when He truly is hearing what you pray. As a matter of fact, King David, who was a man after God’s own heart, at one time, according to Psalm 10:1, thought God had turned His ear away but David decided to keep praying anyway.  As a result, he got through some of his toughest times, conquering everything he faced!

Beloved of God, if you feel they haven’t manifested yet, I want you to see the blessings you pray for begin to flow for you, too. So, following are seven common hindrances to prayer, and tips you can start consistently applying today that’ll help you to bust away blockers to boost your blessings!

#1 – No Time For Prayer

A very common challenge is finding time for prayer. Life just seems to get in the way. Dedication to endeavors take precedent. Commitments to promises you’ve made take longer than expected. It even seems that no matter how much technological advances are available to help save time, there just no more time!

Blocker Buster Tip: Set Your Mind to Guard Your God Time!

I’m believing for you that knowing how important prayer is to your body, spirit, and soul, to fostering that inner peace, as well as, manifesting outer benefits in your home, workplace, and other environments, with God’s help you can find some time. The Lord will help you to do anything that is in His Will. And, the bottom line is, He wants to spend time with you. He knows all about you; more about you than even you know about yourself that He wants to enlighten you about. He, also, wants you to get to know Him.

Two things that can put you at ease when trying to carve out and set aside prayer time with The Lord is first to know that you have the right to claim and guard your time diligently and lovingly. In Matthew 14:15, it says of Jesus, “After sending the people away, He went up a mountain to pray by Himself. When evening came, He was there alone.” Sometimes, beloved, you may need to politely let those around you be on their own, as appropriately as possible, so you can retreat to a quiet place to be refreshed replenished and restored during your time with The Lord.

Second, you will still get to your promise, even as you shift some of your time from pursuing your endeavors, to pursuing God. The Father would not allow your time with Him get in the way of you completing the purpose He created you to do. It will actually empower you to do it more efficiently and effectively! We can see an example of this in Joshua 3:9 in which the Children of Israel were in the midst of their journey towards their promised land, yet Joshua instructed them to, “…Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.” For, listening is an important part of prayer too. It helps you to rest in Him by being still and taking in what God has to say about Himself and any situations you bring to Him in prayer.

#2 – Guilty Feelings

Sometimes it may be a little intimidating to enter into God’s presence when feeling like He may chastise you for something you’ve done, or thinking He doesn’t want to speak to you because of it. Whether the guilt is valid, meaning it is your responsibility to take on as a consequence for something you did wrong, or whether you’re taking on guilt for something that really is not your fault, guilt could be a blocker to wanting to pray, and thus a blocker to blessings.

Blocker Buster Tip: Pray Anyway; the Only Way to Take Guilt Away

Beloved, God has always known that sometimes you’d make mistakes or poor decisions. For that reason, He has made way through Jesus to rectify those deeds. As a matter of fact, Hebrews 10:19-22, says “And so, brothers and sisters, we are completely free to enter the Most Holy Place. We can do this without fear because of the blood sacrifice of Jesus. We enter through a new way that Jesus opened for us. It is a living way that leads through the curtain—Christ’s body. And we have a great priest who rules the house of God. Sprinkled with the blood of Christ, our hearts have been made free from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. So come near to God with a sincere heart, full of confidence because of our faith in Christ.”

This means there’s no need to feel ashamed to approach the throne of grace in your time of need. I talk more at length, in (Pod)Casting Potential’s episode 19, Want to know 3 Keys to Happiness?, about how it doesn’t matter what you’ve done, The Lord still wants you to come nearer Him. Also, touched upon in that episode is what to do with guilt that is not rightfully yours. If you haven’t already, please take some time to listen, to hear what will help you to not only remove the guilty feelings by way of prayer, but also to increase your happiness. To start you off to rid yourself of the guilty feelings that keep you away from prayer, use The Prayer that Can Change Your Life. Beloved, God is always willing to hear your prayer of sincere repentance, and move forward to use you in whatever capacity He’s purposed for you. From there, as you continue in communing with The Lord, you will begin to see great positive changes in your life!

#3 – Fear of Hearing Unpleasant Truths

Fear of hearing conviction of wrong doing, or a Divine request for you to let something go, not always things bad in & of themselves, but sometimes possibly not in God’s Will for you, may have you hesitating to pray.

Blocker Buster Tip: Accept Adaptation to Tough Truths like Taking Needed Medication

Allowing the Truth to help you is not a bad thing at all. Scripture says that God loves you like a loving father who disciplines His children. Hebrews 12:5,6 reminds us stating, “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, ‘My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son.’” I remember one time speaking with a woman who told me that her relationship with her mother was so strained because she held a bit of disappointment that her mother didn’t chastise her more. Apparently, it made her feel like the fact that her mom was so extremely permissive meant that her mother didn’t care about her. My having studied Psychology and understanding various roots behind why some people do what they do, in a situation such as this, the underlying reasons a parent would do such a thing can be so much more involved, and so should not be judged. However, the point is, that God appropriately disciplines, not too harshly, but with mercy and grace. And that is love because God at His core is love. 1 Corinthians 13:6 ESV tells of love, that “it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” So, He will at times correct you if you are going down a path that is detrimental to the great destiny He has for you. He will also correct your understanding of some things because the enemy is out to confuse and misdirect you with twisted truths, as he did with Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden. Rejoice, beloved! Not in the frequency of having need it done because God would rather you obey more than He needs to discipline. But rejoice in the fact that He loves you enough to do so.

It is part of God’s nature to correct via conviction because He is Righteous. Jesus teaches us about the Holy Spirit in John 16:8,9 saying that; “When He comes, He will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in Me”. This is not to condemn you but to keep you from condemnation because He’s given you and me patient chances to come into His presence as we are, by way of being covered in the righteousness of Christ. Yet, He does not want you to remain as He found you. He wants to heal you, progress you, and take you higher than you’ve ever been. Sometimes that means letting some things go that would otherwise be blockers, weighing you down.

Beloved, even I as one who brings you messages of The Lord, will not cheat you out of opportunities of living a Divinely healthful life by hiding the truth from you. Yes, God wants you to hear what you want to hear. He wants you to hear you are forgiven. He wants you to hear that the windows of Heaven are opening up to pour you out blessings that are pressed down, shaken together, and running over in your lap. He wants you to hear that He loves and accepts you always. AND… AND… AND… He wants you to hear what you “need” to hear to keep you out of traps that are hidden beneath words that are used as the enemy’s bait by way of “only” telling you what your itching ears want to hear. You can trust that you, as you heed, according to Proverbs 15:32; “…life-giving correction will be at home among the wise.”

#4 – Not Knowing What to Say During Trials

Tempting you to not even put in the time to pray, is not even knowing what to pray in a tough situation. But it’s not impossible to pray, as we see in Jonah 2:1 that says “While Jonah was in the stomach of the fish, he prayed to the Lord his God.” Even in the most challenging circumstances, when you are in a place you may have never thought you’d be, sometimes you may not even know what to pray.

Blocker Buster Tip: Jesus is Enough to Start; for He Knows Your Heart

Beloved, the wonderful part is that the Presence of the Holy Spirit does what you can’t, and He is wherever you are, RIGHT NOW!  According to Romans 8:26, it conveys that “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.” So, in a case or situation such as this, retreat to a private place anyway. Then for as long, or as many times, as you feel the need just sit with seeking Jesus on your mind. I pray, as you do, that the ministering Angels of The Lord encamp around you to meet you where you are. You may be quite surprised at what wonders come out of just sitting in His presence. Though you may not talk, the Holy Spirit knows you inwardly, and prays to The Father for you. This is, essentially an urgency form of prayer when you have no words to pray.

#5 – Unfit Motivations

Definite hindrances to answered prayers can be unfit motivations! There are two to be cognizant of: #1-no motivation to pray and #2-improper reasons for requests. James 4:2,3 covers both reasons, conveying, “You want things, but you don’t get them. So you kill and are jealous of others. But you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t get what you want because you don’t ask God. Or when you ask, you don’t receive anything, because the reason you ask is wrong. You only want to use it for your own pleasure.”

You may have heard me speak of how I had been a prodigal child, away from The Father for about 20 years. It wasn’t until I recommitted my life to Christ, and began to get to know Him and His Will, that I realized reasons why He didn’t seem to answer some of my prayers back then! I was periodically sending up prayers for things that weren’t good for me, AT ALL! Or, they were simply not for me. And, I was too far away to hear Him say, “No. You are My child, you deserve better than that.” When I think back on what I was asking for at times, I often say, “what was I thinking, asking for that?!” Now, I praise Him in thankfulness that I didn’t get what I asked for!

There’s a way to reduce these kinds of hindrances, though. Throughout this post, you’ve been given some tips on how to keep your motivation to go to God in prayer, and ask for what you want in the first place. This next tip is to help you to ensure your reasons for asking, and what you actually ask for, are a help and not a hindrance to your prayers.

Blocker Buster Tip: Be Still to Know His Will

1 John 5:14-15 NIV encourages us saying, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

We learn God’s Will by adding to our prayer time, Bible study via personally reading the Bible or attending Bible studies. This is equivalent to meeting someone new, and spending time with them to hear them tell you about themselves. And, as you do this, you learn what they like and dislike. You begin to recognize their voice, their patterns, their desires, and as you be still to get to know that He is God, you’ll get familiar with these wonderful things about Him too. And, He’ll assist in guiding you towards what’s best for you, from His higher point of view!

#6 – Thoughts that God Seems Too Far Away

Trust, beloved, He is right there with you!  Thinking God’s too far away to hear what you have to say is an easy thought to have when you’re not quite sure how God speaks to you. Or, you may think He doesn’t speak at all. Yes… I assure you, He does.

Blocker Buster Tip: Close the Gap by Making Frequency Taps

During the time I was that prodigal child, I wasn’t close to The Father, but I hadn’t lost my faith that He existed. I didn’t understand, however, that He is a bi-directional communicative God. For a long time, I perceived God as an arbitrary Spirit in the sky that really didn’t interact much with us on Earth. And, so prayer was but periodic, in moments of desperation, or much desired wishes at times, with no expectation for a real response. It wasn’t until I had gotten back into church, and Bible study that I realized God has always spoken to His people. And, He still does, but sometimes we are the ones who drift away, not in the space of distance between us and God, because God is everywhere. But, drifted away by way of not tapping into the frequency that enables us to tune into His Voice. Hearing the Voice of God, is a topic I discuss at a greater length than I can do in this blog post, in my (Pod)Casting Potential episode 11 called “4 Ways to Start or Improve Hearing the Voice of God”.  If you haven’t already, I encourage you to listen to it, and download the free checklist that will guide you towards getting as close to God as you’d like to be. For, James 4:8 says to “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…”!

#7 – Delays & Doubt

Experiencing delays and doubt can be serious show stoppers to prayer. At times, they may even make you think that God isn’t there, has forgotten about you, or is too busy for you. None of these are the case at all!

Blocker Buster Tip: Trust, Continuing to Confide in The One who Presides

Trust, keeping confidence, that God is a Rewarder for your Faithfulness in seeking Him through Prayer! Per Hebrews 11:6, “…believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Additionally, Hebrews 6:10 & 10:35-37 NIV reminds us that “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them… So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. For, ‘In just a little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.’”

The end of those sets of Scripture just provided says that God will not delay. And, He doesn’t. What seems like a delay to you is part of His Divine schedule. Every now and again, God may test your faith to grow your patience with what seem like delays, in the natural. Other times, it may be a case where Angels assigned to your prayer requests are caught up in some Spiritual realm tasks or battle sent to hinder them from bringing you the answers to your prayers, such as Daniel experienced in Daniel 10:12-14 ERV, which says; “‘…Daniel, do not be afraid. From the very first day you decided to get wisdom and to be humble in front of God, He has been listening to your prayers. I came to you because you have been praying. But the prince of Persia has been fighting against me for 21 days. Then Michael, one of the most important princes, came to help me because I was stuck there with the king of Persia. Now I have come to you, Daniel, to explain to you what will happen…’”

Beloved, your prayers are being heard! The Angels who faithfully do The Lord’s bidding have been assigned and are in route. At times they may be delayed in getting you the answer you seek, but believe that God is Omniscient. He is all knowing, and so knew what was going to happen before it happened, thus He worked even that into your plan to have it work out in Divine timing! And, as we are reminded in 2 Peter 3:8-9 NIV “…do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness…”

Additionally, one of the biggest tactics the enemy uses is to get you to doubt that God is Who He says He is, or that He will do what He says He will do. The enemy does things to cause you to doubt your prayers because he knows that as per Luke 10:19 you’ve been given power that is more powerful than the power he has. Prayer is the conduit through which The Lord delegates His Power to us, which makes sense why the adversary goes through extreme measures to cut off that connection. He knows that through prayer, and progression into Spiritual Maturity helps you to discern the difference between good and evil, and you receive strength and greater measures of faith to stand in the Truth of God’s Word and Ways.

We see he tried this with Job, wherein Job prayed to The Lord, but the enemy kept sending attacks against his life trying to render Job faithless and doubtful of God and the effectiveness of his prayers. I decree and declare this will not, or no longer, happen to you! As a matter of fact, I cancel break and destroy every toxic tactic that would come against the lives, and God-given endeavors, of you and yours from this point forward! In Jesus Name! As you press on in prayer, you’ll come out on the other side triumphantly, just as seen in Job 42:10,12, where Job’s perseverance in faithful prayer brought him out stronger and more blessed than before!

Beloved, your blessings are waiting for you! Waiting to be released unto you, as you use which ever blocker buster tips that apply to you, and “pray continually, give thanks in circumstances…” per 1 Thessalonians 5:17,18, never giving up. For, The Lord’s interventions are on their way, and will manifest to His Glory in your life! Therefore, as I stand in faith with you and for you, I speak forth a birthing of your own testimonies of how God shows up and shows out for you!

Warning! Overwhelming Joy Gained with Just a Few Things!

Joyful ReunionA woman I know, made some decisions in her young years that proved to be regretful. She had two abortions in the span of her 20’s. They were decisions she felt, at the times, were right. After all, they were allowed by the law of the land, yet it wasn’t easy for her to do. Regret hid under layers of achievements, smiles, and outer adornment. Later, it could hide no longer as it hit her even harder when she realized the reality of having made those decisions from God’s perspective. I remember her story well, how one day while going home from an appointment, on a warm sunny summer afternoon. The conviction of her actions hit her like a ton of bricks. Tears covered her face beneath her eyes. Her body began to heave as she sobbed, so much so she had to pull over to maintain control of her vehicle while her uncontrollable weeping to took over.

A man, who got fed up with years of mistreatment and abuse, took matters into his own hands and lost nearly two decades of his life as a result, and now needs to rebuild his life, his relationships, and his confidence.

Someone else made some risky decisions as a stock broker and experienced, what he saw as a catastrophic loss, that caused self-resentment and fear that he’d lose a lot more.

And, your story is…?

Despite what it is, trust, you are not alone. We all have one, maybe more. As a matter of fact, Romans 3:23 states that “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”  And, unfortunately, there’s no running away from the fact that what was done was done; that what was said was said; or that the accident/incident happened. Be it 30 minutes ago, 30 months ago, or 30 years ago, you have carried around a regretful heart full of sorrow that has, in your eyes, grayed out all of your tomorrows, because…

What do you do when something you’ve done can’t be undone?

What do you do when something has gone wrong and it can no longer be made right?

What do you do when something was said knowing words can never be unsaid?

There’s a few things you can do. They will begin to position you to receive, as Isaiah 61:3 says, all The Lord promised to His children, which is to “…provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”  It all starts as you…

Embrace Everlasting Love

Understand that no matter how bad you think it was, God loves you with an everlasting love. A love He will never take away from you. Though it has seemed to elude you, joy is still in reach for you. It sits at your step waiting for you to take it in. This gift has engraved on it something for you to remind yourself of daily in saying, Psalm 27:13 “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” Because He wants you to share in His happiness. Isaiah 30:18 ERV states that “…the Lord is waiting to show his mercy to you. He wants to rise and comfort you. The Lord is the God who does the right thing, so he will bless everyone who waits for his help.”

You can embrace His love by spending time with Him, and embodying all the good things He says about you. And, emboldening yourself with how He chooses to shape, mold, and grow you. It’s important, however, to not be timid in approaching the Throne of Grace because of regrets of past deeds. One thing that helps with releasing the uneasiness to pray is to know that…

Conviction Does Not Equal Condemnation

You see, all too often, many of us can’t forgive ourselves for past failues that we’ve already asked God’s forgiveness for and yet have not continued to make. It’s because we fall into the trap of ungodly condemnation. Feelings of regret from past actions, despite how long ago, can come from two places, Holy Spirit conviction, or condemnation, sometimes interchanged with judgment, which sources from either the Holy Spirit, a misconstrued perspective of what’s right and wrong, or from demonic influences. Understanding the difference will help you to better discern where and why guilt arises, even if you’ve already confessed and repented according to the Will of The Lord. And, it will give you a gage to evaluate what you can use to allow  yourself to grow and what you can ignore and throw away.

Regarding Conviction, as John 16:8 ESV reminds us, the Holy Spirit comes to “…convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment”. And, this is, of course, in addition to all the other wonderful things that He comes to do for us with His comfort, defense, and power. To convict, according to the Biblical Greek meaning is to reprove, rebuke (which are both akin to reprimand) and to admonish (which is to warn) in regards to a person having done, or the propensity to do, something wrong. Revelation 3:19 MSG says “The people I love, I call to account—prod and correct and guide so that they’ll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!” I absolutely love that it says …so that they’ll live at their best! Yes, as with a natural parent, He may have chided you, but He does so out of love because He wants you to be your best self; to come into all He’s made you to be. That chiding causes, what I call “good” guilt. The kind that makes you aware that what you’re about to do, or what was done or said, is wrong. That is very helpful, for example, when we have a thorn in our sides that we struggle with but don’t want to keep falling into. So, the Holy Spirit will sometimes send a word of conviction as a warning to give you a chance to decide to take the way out of what tempts you. Or, to give you a chance to confess and change towards more favorable actions.

On the other hand, Condemnation/Judgment is a final decision, a judgment, about a person based on what that person has been perceived as doing. God condemns or judge those who have deliberately decided to live in sin, despite knowing or having heard about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, yet rejects Him. Thus, trampling the Son of God under their feet as said according to Hebrews 10:29. But, if there is anyone you know who has taken this stance, don’t give up on them. Encourage them not to give up on seeing and living life God’s way. There’s still time for better decisions to be made. For 2 Peter 3:9 NIV, says that “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” This is part of His Gift of Grace that is available. The only thing needed is to ask and receive. Below, towards the end of the post, is a prayer that can lead you to that opportunity. Please share or retweet this article to give the Gift of God’s Grace to whoever needs it. God will certainly bless you for it!

The devil, however, who comes to kill your faith, steal your joy, and destroy your destiny will use condemnation as one of his tactics in attempts to complete those very assignments. An example we can clearly see where the enemy tried to do this is in Jesus’ trial and condemnation to be crucified. The enemy led people to wrongly condemn Jesus, but Jesus was not “convicted” in His Spirit by His Spirit as doing anything wrong because He had done nothing wrong. It is here where many of us get stuck in not forgiving ourselves because the enemy will wrongly cause you to feel condemned for either what you never did or what you already repented for and don’t do. Unfortunately, sometimes our own understanding of what is okay and not okay with God can play a part in the enemy’s making us regret things we should not feel guilty about. For instance, we sometimes feel guilty about what other people actually did wrong to us. It’s a form of false and misplaced guilt. This happens because we begin to believe his lies instead of believing the truths of God.

Hopefully, this has given you a clearer perspective on conviction versus condemnation, and helps you to accept that…

You Deserve Forgiveness, Even Your Own

Past memories have relentless ways of keeping the past in our present that causes us to judge ourselves out of our future. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate who stands for us and stands with us helping us to remember what Jesus taught us about His forgiveness and the freedom it has granted us. As we are reminded in Romans 8:1,4 ESV, that “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus… in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” So, when you begin to hear the nagging accusations remember that despite what you may think, you are worthy of forgiveness. Zechariah 3:1,3,4 shows us that what God thinks, is superior over what anyone else thinks in telling us that “The angel showed me Joshua the high priest, standing in front of the angel of the Lord and Satan was standing by Joshua’s right side. Satan was there to accuse Joshua of doing wrong. Joshua was wearing a dirty robe as he stood in front of the angel. Then the angel said to the other angels standing near him, ‘Take those dirty clothes off Joshua.’ Then the angel spoke to Joshua. He said, ‘Now, I have taken away your guilt, and I am giving you a new change of clothes.’”

Joshua didn’t fight the angels of The Lord, saying he doesn’t deserve to be happy. He didn’t look at the blessing in front of him and question “Why would God do this for me after all the wrong I’ve done?” He didn’t say, “No! Don’t put new clothes on me! I’m only going to dirty them again!” He simply received the Gift of Grace. He humbly accepted a new chance to do things differently. Despite what you’ve done, you can do things differently because…

Mistakes Allow for Better Remakes

Mistakes don’t make you stupid, they can make you smarter and stronger, if you let them. The woman in the opening story, as mentioned, originally thought she had made the right decisions, only to later find they weren’t right in God’s eyes. As she went further along in her story, her encounter with God proved to be a comforting one. Comforting in God’s unlimited understanding of the reasons behind, while not condoning, her actions at the time. In addition, The Lord began helping her to understand ways to make wiser decisions later. She knows now what she did not know then. And that makes her smarter and stronger. This understanding and guidance is available to you too. You may not be able to use it to correct what happened, but consider these:

  • Let God use you
In having taken responsibility for your part in the mishap, how can what you learned to do or not to do help keep someone else from making the same missteps?
  • Let It Transform You
What options, in line with the Will of God, are available to you to consistently do differently this time, to prevent what happened before?

You are not still here to allow your life to sink into the abyss of where the past lives. God’s giving you new mercies every morning to begin to restore and revive your life. It’s as close as you deciding to…

Claim Your Gift of Grace

You have mourned your mistake(s) long enough. According to Ecclesiastes 3:4, There’s “A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;” As you read this message, know that your time to weep and mourn has reached its pivot point to now begin to become a time for you to laugh and dance. And, Psalm 126:6 “Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.” Believe, beloved of God, the tears you’ve sown, in the Mighty Hands of God, can start to bring forth a harvest of joy!

It’s yours to take, beloved.

Will you take it? Allowing yourself to, first, embrace everlasting love from The Father. Second, build yourself by using the understanding the differences between Holy Spirit conviction and demonic condemnation to evaluate what to pay attention to and what to ignore. Third, believe that you deserve God’s forgiveness, as well as your own. Fourth, reconstruct your life, adding meaning by allowing God to transform your mistakes to remake them into something beautiful. And, fifth, LIVE, beloved! LIVE! By accepting the Gift of Grace, the Indescribable Gift that Jesus came and was crucified to provide. To do so, please pray the prayer in the included photo below.

Receive the Indescribable Gift of Grace

Father, thank You for the Gift of Grace that’s available because Your Son has Risen from the darkest depths of death to provide abundant everlasting life.

In this time of Your favor, I want to take this indescribable gift, and so, I confess from my heart with my mouth that the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of the One and Only True and Living God.  Jesus is Christ, The Messiah.  I believe with my heart that He died on the Cross for my sins, and was raised to life to raise life in me.  Lord Jesus, please come into my heart, live in me, help me to live in You and for You.  I hand the reigns of my life to You, Jesus, making You my Lord and Savior.  I repent of my sins, and so choose to turn away from all of that which displeases & grieves Your Holy Spirit.  Please forgive me for my sins.  And, help me when and wherever I am weak-willed, or strong in self-will, in thought or deed, to remain on the Way of Everlasting.

I bless You, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, for who You are and all that You are. Thank You for the healing, wholeness, and restoration, in my soul, spirit, and body that my becoming a New Creation in Christ, as a Child of God, will bring.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus.

Amen.

No matter what you’ve done, remember God loves you! And, I love you with the love of God! As God longs to show you His compassion, I long to help you LIVE the abundant life Christ came to give to you. So, if you would like to explore claiming your gift of grace to reclaim your life on a more focused and detailed level, please Contact me for your complementary session.  I’ll be very excited to start working with you!

May God Bless you in every way!

Prayer for the 7 Churches

Prayer for the 7 ChurchesOver the last seven weeks, as directed by The Lord about a week or two before that, I’ve been guiding those of you who have been listening, through an 8-week (Pod)Casting Potential series called Spiritual House Spring Cleaning.  This series has been to help you clear and breakdown any blockages, within your own spiritual houses, that could possibly delay or distract you from grasping all the great new things God has planned for you in this season of your life.  About five weeks into the series, God showed me the burden on His heart through the Letters to the Seven Churches in Revelations chapters 2 & 3.  And, I was reminded of Haggai 1:4, “You people think the right time has come for you to live in nice houses. You live in houses with beautiful wooden paneling on the walls, but the Lord’s house is still in ruins.”

So, since about two weeks ago, I’ve been praying a cleansing prayer, based off of the Letters to the Seven Churches, nightly for all churches around the world. I’m posting this not to toot my own horn, but to ask for more Church leaders, prayer warriors, and intercessors to join with me, to generate greater power via unified prayer to bring forth a shift in what The Lord is seeking to do in this time for His Houses that are to be Houses of Worship & Houses of Prayer.

See the prayer below.  I appreciate all of you who pray this prayer along with me for Five nights, from the post date of this post, and any of you who periodically pray it subsequently.

May God Bless you mightily for your obedience and for your heart for the Temples of God and the Body of Christ!

Please pray the prayer straight through as if you’re praying it all for all churches.  The subtitles are only there to indicate the Churches that Jesus was talking to as I was writing the prayer.

For those like Ephesus:
Lord Jesus, assist us to do good works and never weary, to have perseverance and endurance for the hardships. Give us strength, Lord to stand against & resist the lures of the wicked. Draw us nearer to You, Lord so that we may love You with all our hearts, minds, & souls as we once first did.  Burn away all things not of You with Your (spiritual not natural) Consuming Purifying Fire, sanctifying the atmospheres around us & in us, so that we may be given the right to eat from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

For those like Smyrna:
God, You’ve seen & are seeing the evil we are suffering, please give us power, protection, and faithfulness to overcome, even to the point of death, that we may gain the crown of life & avoid all effects of the 2nd death.

For those like Pergamum:
We desire to remain true to Your name, Lord Jesus, to always maintain & grow in faith in You. Father give us wisdom, knowledge, understanding, & strategy to reject the spirits & teachings of Balaam, Balak, & the Nicolaitans. Make us over, Lord, so we may overcome to receive some of the hidden manna & white stones with new names written on them.

For those like Thyatira:
Regarding the good deeds, love, faith, service, and perseverance we seek Your provision, Lord, to enable us to carry on so that we can go forth in doing more than we did at first. Give us the power, heart’s desire, self-control, to drive out, force out, cast out, & bind the spirit of jezebel & all the teachings that misleads Your servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. Please help us, Oh God, to do all of this so we can be repaid for good deeds and gain authority over the nations & the morning star.

For those like Sardis:
Oh our Savior Jesus Christ, who came to give us abundant life, we cast off the reputation of being alive, but are actually dead! I drive out, force out, cast out & bind the spirit of Ichabod, In Jesus Name! Help us to wake up, Oh Sovereign One, & strengthen what remains & is about to die! May we be able to complete our good deeds in Your sight! We long to never have our names blotted out of the book of life & to have our names acknowledged before You Father God, and Your angels.

For those like Philadelphia:
Lord Jesus, what You open no man can shut, and what You shut, no one can open! Thank You for seeing our deeds, and we ask you to help us to continue, so that we can walk through the open doors that You place before us that no one can shut. Infill us, Holy Spirit, indwell in us that we may have added strength, to remove our weariness. May we keep Your Word forever, and never deny Your Name, Jesus. Cause our enemies to see Your Glory, and as a result, come & fall at our feet to be at peace with us, seeing that You have loved us. As we keep Your commands patiently, keep us from the hour of trial, that we may hold on to all that is of You, Oh Lord, overcome and be made pillars in the temple of God.

For those like Laodicea:
Douse Your Living Water on us, Oh God, wake us up! So, that we are no longer neither hot nor cold. Turn our eyes away from the wealth of the world towards the true riches & glory of Christ Jesus. Help us to never ignore Your knocking at the doors of our hearts but instead to let You in, that we may sup with You, overcome, and gain the right to sit with You, Lord, on Your throne.

For everything, Oh Lord, for anything & everything, that we could have possibly wrongly done, including our hidden faults, please give us a heart’s desire to truly & everlastingly repent. Help us all to humble ourselves & pray, and turn from our wicked ways, so that all that is in the Houses of God & in and around the Body of Christ is healed, body, spirit, & soul.

In Jesus Name. Amen.

Thank you!

Bring Your God-Given Dreams to Pass Despite Opposition

keep my dreamAs one facing similar experiences as you, when it comes to opposition, I was reminded just recently that opposition is not a time to be sad. It’s not a time to give up. Nor, does it indicate that God has changed His mind about what He has told you to do or what He has created you to do. Everything you do for God will draw all kinds of antagonisms, resistance, and opposition. Some, surprisingly from many whom you would have never expected them to come from. And, at times, you probably wonder, what do I do when I feel like I can’t win?  What do I do when I feel like the enemy keeps saying to me “I’m going to stop your dream… from. ever. coming. true.”?

  • First, remember the devil is a liar! And, be encouraged to live out your Divine right to Dream BIG, Think BIG, Believe BIG, AND… Win BIG because you serve a BIG God who never asks you to do anything for Him that you could do without Him. So, He doesn’t expect you to do it without His help. Like He did with Balaam, He will cause your enemies to Bless you instead of curse you!
  • Second, stay connected to the only connection you need foundationally, “God” Himself! When Nehemiah took on the challenge of rebuilding what the enemy had destroyed, people in high places attempted to stand in his way. What did he do? He did not give up. He did not hide. He did not hesitate. He PRAYED! And, as he moved forward, he trusted The Lord to remove any opposition, and implemented the steps in bringing the dream God had given him to pass.  Brother/Sister in Christ, we must stay prayed up! Prayer is the connection to the power you need to overcome the world as Jesus overcame the world.
  • Third, wear the Full Armor of God that you’ve been given as you use the weapons that are not carnal to do your part. And, then rest in God by letting Him do the rest.  You can start with the prayer below that wields the Sword of the Spirit:

“Lord, I can’t stop opposition from succeeding against me, without Your help. I will continue to stand strong in faith, covered by the Blood of Jesus & wearing the full Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20). I will continue to use the mighty weapons that are not carnal (2 Corinthians 10:4,5) that You’ve given me & leave the rest of what I cannot do up to You; for You, Oh God are Faithful to do it.

I decree & declare no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).  And, as the enemy, his demons, & his workers of iniquity set traps for me, I decree & declare, they will fall into their own snares themselves. Nothing can thwart the plans of God. (Job 42:2)

Father God, no matter what comes against me, enable me to let love and faithfulness never leave me. May I wear them proudly as a necklace, and have them effectively ingrained in my heart. Provide me Your increased power & favor with both You & people. (Proverbs 3:3,4) Cause me to triumph over every Tobiah & Sanballat spirit (Nehemiah 4:1-8).  Make every Balaam spirit bless me (Numbers chapters 22-24).  And, cause every Judas spirit to hang itself in the spirit (Matthew 27:1-5); only the spirit, Lord, not the people, for I seek people’s deliverance not their demise.

Lord, only You see & know the hearts of people, unless they are truly & permanently repentant with contrite hearts, lift up all that covers wicked acts, expose to the world the ugly truth of who they, those who have rejected You, Jesus, truly are and have been all along, so that no Child of God shall be oppressed, suppressed, deceived, or manipulated.  And, tho I pray every plan, assignment, & task of the enemy fails, cause anything You choose to allow to expediently propel me, ready, willing, & powerfully able, into my God-given dreams of promises, destiny, & purpose.

In Jesus Name.  Amen.”

Keep praying, Child of God! (P)ray (U)ntil (S)omething (H)appens… PUSH through that opposition because God has given you all you need to breakthrough it with Grace! And, soon you’ll see the days when your God-given dreams of promises begin to collide with reality!

SCALE the Wall to Access Answers to Your Prayers

Wall 436x245Years ago, when I was heavily entrenched in my former career, I was extremely light on my connection with God. On a ranking from one to ten, it was closer to a two. I believed but I didn’t talk to Him much. Overwhelmed by unrealistic deadlines, pressure to perform, and a workaholic-like drive to get whatever I was working on done, periodically, I got stuck on it. Spending a few hours on it, building up festering frustrations. But, every now and then I would remember to pray for help to resolve the pressing issue at hand. Usually, within 20 minutes, the solution would be revealed. Sometimes it seemed so miraculous, that I praised God and wondered why I didn’t pray sooner.

At that time, I knew of Him, but didn’t know Him. I didn’t know that He had promised in Jeremiah ‭33:2-3‬ ‭MSG‬; “This is GOD ’s Message, the God who made earth, made it livable and lasting, known everywhere as GOD: ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’” Before I recommitted my life to Christ years later, I prayed like that pretty much only whenever I got stuck and spent too much time on an issue, and of course I noticed a pattern; God answers prayer. Every time He’d answer in a fraction of the time that I had spent on the problem. This story is trivial, but I want to help you to see that no matter how big or small, God answers prayer. It may not always be instant, but He always answer prayer with a Yes, Not Yet, or No, depending on His will and plan for you. You only have to be ready to receive it.

To ready yourself, unblocking your prayers depend on you doing your part, so you can ensure nothing’s standing in your way to receive the answers. Because God is not our genie in a bottle, He desires for us to live life in partnership with Him. Actually, more so in a relationship with Him. No one, I doubt even you, wants to be the one doing all the work in a relationship. God will do the heavy lifting of what you can’t do, but He still wants you to participate in the implementation of the blueprint He’s drawn up for you. Your participation includes Seeking God with a Cause that’s appropriate, being Adjustable on the expected answer, Listening to what He says, and Eliminating some things to enable yourself to grasp what His answer yields to you. Doing this will help you to SCALE the walls that may block answers to your prayers; as not all walls are erected for the sake of good.

Seek – Strike a Pose to Pray
Yes, God knows what you need. He even knows what you want. He knows the secret fears of what you are lacking. He knows you may want to grow to know Him better because it’s one thing to have been introduced to Him versus know Him. Even if you’re upset with Him, He knows that too. He, from your lips and the bottom of your heart, would like to hear that directly from you. Beloved, it is not that you don’t have what you want or need because He doesn’t love you! On the contrary, He loves you dearly. But you don’t have what you need or want because you may not be striking the pose to pray. “You desire but do not have… You do not have because you do not ask God.” James ‭4:2‬ ‭NIV‬ Jesus tells us in Matthew 7:7 NIV “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find…” I bet you might be thinking, “But, LuKeisha, it’s just not that easy! I still haven’t heard anything.” Actually, for a start at establishing a strong connection, it is, but there are a few more areas to ensure the lines of communication are uninterrupted. One of them is the cause for your desire.

Cause – Pause for the Cause
The motive for wanting what you’re asking for could cause a wall too, or my prayer for you is that it’s one, pleasing in His sight, that would open a door when you knock. As we are reminded in James ‭4:3‬ ‭ERV‬ “…when you ask, you don’t receive anything, because the reason you ask is wrong…” If we take a time travel trip back to 1 Kings 3:7-12 where King Solomon asks God for wisdom. God, who doesn’t look at outward appearances, saw in Solomon’s heart that He was asking with pure motives; to be able to rightly and fairly govern his people with integrity. It wasn’t to prove something to family, friends, or frienemies who let him down or didn’t believe in him, nor to make himself feel important, nor to enable him to compete with others. He asked with good intentions at heart, a sincere desire to help others according to the will of God, which could be quite unpredictable. For what you want or think you need may not be what you’ll get, so it’s important to be willing to adjust to the answer you receive.

Adjustable – Expect the Unexpected
When God answers, as He always does, the only wall there may be is a wall of misunderstanding because you were expecting a specific kind of answer, but you got another. This can cause you to reject a blessing or not recognize it. God is a BIG God! He can’t be put in a box of our finite expectations. Sometimes while we limit Him to our box, He’s trying to get us out of ours to take us to greater places in Him. So, it helps to keep the following Word from the Lord in mind:

“‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,’ declares the Lord. ‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.’” Isaiah ‭55:8-9‬ ‭NIV‬

“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a motherʼs womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.” Ecclesiastes 11:5 NIV

Though He may have said no when you expected a yes, He has something better in store for you. In school, during my internship, I had my mind set on a particular type of internship work assignment, working directly with people nearly 100% of the time. But that wasn’t the ratio I got in the beginning. My internship site supervisor wanted me to help with research and regulations tasks, which would not enable the direct client contact. Initially, I was concerned, but after digging in a little more, listening to her as she shared the benefits of the tasks, I realized God had given me something I needed before I even knew I needed! It wasn’t 100% exactly what I wanted, but if you think about it, it was more than I asked for. He still answered my prayer! Just different from what I expected.

Getting a Not Yet answer, Sara and Abraham had to wait on God’s timing. After all that time of trying and growing older, eventually they had their promised son, in the time He allotted for them to have him. At first not fully believing what He told them, maybe because what He said they never expected, a decision was made to include someone who was never part of the promise, and brought upon themselves unnecessary grief as a result of listening to hear, but choosing not to heed.

Listen – Hear and Heed
Prayer always works! It’s only a matter of whether you’re listening, because God still speaks! Listening to hear The Lord’s thoughts about what you prayed and what’s on your heart that you may not have prayed about. Amos 4:3 NIV tells us thatHe who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals His thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth— the Lord God Almighty is His name.” You’re listening to hear, but also to heed His guidance with a willing spirit. For, “God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to Him.”, as mentioned in Proverbs ‭28:9‬ ‭MSG Even you would get quite tired and frustrated at your spouse, children, co-workers, or whoever comes to you for help but either isn’t fully attentive in hearing what you say or seems to never follow your suggestions. Think about it, i‬f Joshua and his soldiers had not listened for or ignored God’s instructions to march and shout as directed, the wall of Jericho would have never come tumbling down. Will you begin to do what it takes to make sure any walls around the answers to your prayers are no longer a barrier? What are you willing to eliminate?

Eliminate – Release to Receive
Once you’ve listened to The Father, He may be asking you to give up a thing or few so He can bless you with much greater. Answers to prayer can be blocked if you insist keeping your hands full of what isn’t beneficial to you or your blessings in the long run, leaving no room in your hands to grasp and hold to what is most valuable and lasting.

“I cried out to him with my mouth; His praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.” Psalm 66:17-19 NIV

To cherish something in your heart means that you love it, you want to hold on to it. It’s not referring to what you may be sincerely working through to remove, but it’s taking more time than you’d like to complete. So, as you wait for answers to your prayer, or hear God’s answers giving instruction, remember what Pastor John C. Maxwell once said, “If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want will be the sacrifice.”  Know that nothing you ever give up for God can be greater than what He is capable of giving you in return.

Yes, to SCALE any wall is a workout! This is a workout, however, that builds your spiritual muscle, giving you access to power you may have rarely seen before, if you weren’t aware that all or some of these walls may be present. So, get ready! Ready to strike a pose to pray, pause for the cause, expect the unexpected, hear & heed, and release to receive! Ready to see the move of God in your life like you’ve never seen it before!

Obscure Power is Not Power Failure

Ants are said to be able to carry 100 times plus their body weight. Imagine yourself attempting to “carry” not just lift that much weight.  I remember barely being able to do two chin-ups, lifting my body weight, in gym class when I was a young child.  As far as I have heard there is no other living creature on Earth that has the ability to do this. Tiny and obscure insects, most of us only see periodically, never openly seeing their ability of strength in complete execution, failing to see how powerful they really are.   Similarly, though God is a Great and Mighty God, you may not openly see His power in your life at a given time, but be assured that He does not have power failures! So, His Power will never fail in you! Just as many don’t often witness ants’ strength and strategies in action, they are still active in full force, around the clock, working things out, and The Father is doing the same.

Is there something you know you need to do? Something The Lord is calling you to do? A habit or two, maybe more, that you know you must put behind you? Perhaps, you’ve fallen from where you know you should be? Possibly, you’ve heard an untimely or unpleasant report from the doctor, and you don’t want to face the challenge it may bring?  Resist and renounce the voice in your head that says, “I’m not getting back up!”  Thomas A. Edison, the one who shed light via an innovative way to use power said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.”  And, per God in 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV, “…My grace is sufficient for you, for My Power is made perfect in weakness”, which means you never have to give up.  You don’t have to settle.  So, shake off the call of the enemy that steers you backward into your past, so you can answer the call of God which ushers you towards the New Things He has for you! Understand that it’s important not to focus on what has fallen, or might fall, apart but to think of all those that don’t. One of them is the Power of God.

“Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.” Psalms 147:5 NIV

Disconnected from the Power Source, our ability is limited, just like a light that is unplugged from its power source. Jesus tells us in John 15:5 NIV, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” He’s saying we must stay plugged into Him in order to shine the way we’re made to do. Power means to make “able” to do something; to have a strength of “might”. Connected to Him, you have His Power, the same Power that raised Him to life! Not by your might but by His Spirit, He can resuscitate your hopes for your struggling relationship with your siblings. He can jolt life into a delayed dream so that it is fresh and vibrant in the present on into the future. He can cause whatever you’ve lost hope in to walk out of a dank dry place. You simply need to accept Him into your heart if you haven’t already. Or, if you have already, be determined to no longer quench the Power of the Holy Spirit with paralyzing doubt. When His Holy Spirit “enters” you, it “EmPowers”, placing “in” you Divine ability, taking away, as you push forth with each step of faith, false notions of powerlessness and feelings of inadequacy.

He understands your fears and doubts, why you have them and when you’re going to have them, but He is asking you to trust in His Power, and just as Jesus told Thomas, in John 20:27 who doubted our Lord’s resurrection, “…Stop doubting and just believe.” Believing in Jesus gives you the power you need through His Holy Spirit. Through Him, you don’t have to give up to avoid having to climb mountains. It’s those mountains that will take you to higher levels in life as you conquer the climbs with Christ.  With a grateful heart for where you are, you can also refuse to settle where you are!  Choose to deny the power of the enemy instead of denying the Power of God. You cannot carry 100 plus times your weight, but God can, even when you can’t see it in full view! Because obscure power is not power failure.  That means you are able, because He is able; because His empowering (placing power in) you enables (places ability in) you!

If you’ve never asked Jesus into your heart, or maybe you’ve stepped away from Him for a while, and are tired of falsely believing that you are powerless, pray the following prayer anywhere at any time, and find a good Bible based church home, in your area, where you can grow in the Lord and in His Power.

“Lord Jesus, I confess, from my heart, that you are the Son of the Living God, our Lord and Savior who was resurrected to give me an abundant life. Forgive me, Lord, for all that I’ve done that displeased you. Help me to set my life on the right path, and to walk in Your Ways, Power, and Wisdom.”

In Jesus’ Name. Amen!

It is my prayer, to God the Father, for you that you seek Him, in prayer,  His help, His presence, His strength, His thoughts, and a willingness to heed His direction even in challenges, whether they are deeply hidden within you or external struggles. May He direct you to places, and send people into your life, that will water all He’s planted in you. I pray all that you need deposited and filled within your spirit be increased by His Spirit so “…you will know that God’s power is very great for us who believe. It is the same as the mighty power He used to raise Christ from death and put Him at His right side in the Heavenly places.” Ephesians 1:19-20 ERV May your faith prevail in every area of your life!

Through the Mighty and Faithful Name of Jesus. Amen!

Prayer: An Excursion for Greater

I have a special affinity for transparency. So with that being said, I was not birthed out of the womb as a great orator or gifted communicator, where later at five years old, I was rocking a toy mic impressing family members. It took some time encouragement and prodding from The Lord to get me to share His Word, and much faith in His confidence in me to go forward along with learning all I can on a journey towards excellence. Like Apostle Paul states in Philippians 3:12 NIV, I too say, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”  I say all of this to say, communication, which involves much more than just words, on any level can be difficult, drawn out, & mundane, feeling like a job we wished we’d never taken… even in communication through prayer. Has prayer begun to feel like a chore, one that seems to not pay off as well as you thought it would? With a little more curiosity, an aim to grasp more than you could ever imagine, and Divine guidance, prayer can take you places in your life, charted and planned by your Creator, but at this moment not yet gleaned by you!

Conversations that feel like daily duty isn’t fun for anyone, especially to those who feel they don’t have the time, the “know how” to hold one, or people who prefer spontaneity instead of a set daily schedule. Thus we feel plagued with questions or comments like, “What do I say?” “I don’t seem to have the time.” “Bob’s got more important things to do.” “Sally seems so far away whenever I talk to her, like she’s not there.” Thus, inwardly this eventually builds a feeling of avoiding interaction because there seems to be no point. We know we should seem interested and polite, so we push ourselves to socialize anyway. It feels like something we have to do and not something we desire to do. But, what about when the other Person on the other end of the conversation with you is God? Jesus in Luke 18:1 ERV encourages His “… followers that they should always pray and never lose hope…”, but for some of us it seems to produce similar previously mentioned feelings and thoughts about Him. Not because God is unable to communicate with us. Not because The Father has nothing of interest or importance to say to us. For God is perfect and all-knowing in every way. More than likely it’s because we need to strive to become more engaged in conversing with Him through prayer in ways that bring us closer to Him, so we can realize that He genuinely is highly interested in participating in every area of our lives.

Jesus is closer than you think. He’s never left you, nor forsaken you. You only need to reach inside of you to stir His Spirit that resides within. More than five years ago, though I believed in God, He felt far away, like an out of sight, out of touch entity. Having accepted Christ into my heart as a tween, He was still with me, but I rarely recognized His presence and work in my life because I scarcely spoke nor returned a listening ear to Him as the years went by. Fizzle of fires of desire to talk to God can be avoided, by going deeper, keeping conversation interesting, and reciprocally giving God the chance to speak. One of my former pastors often said, “Prayer is our sincere desire to communicate with God.” The Lord’s provided the tool of prayer because He has a sincere desire to communicate with us! Using it can foster anticipation of spending time with Him as you would about speaking with a dear and cherished friend or a loving and doting parent with whom you enjoyably speak with each day.

Reel in the Real

Substance is essential to any strong relationship and the conversations within it. It is weighty, and it goes deep. It may be time for you to dive significantly further than what is seen or can be skimmed off the surface. Consider the ocean. That which is closest to the shore is much smaller than what is out in the deep sea. You’re able to catch bigger and heftier things that will yield greater and lasting returns. During prayer, are you staying close to the shore, snorkeling asking to see the pretty shiny little fish? Or, are you scuba diving to touch the things that really keep the heart of the sea beating? This is not to say praying for small things should stop; instead they should simply be part of a package with things in it that make a Big God speak a Word and dispatch Angels because He knows it’s something you absolutely need Him to help you do or receive!

Variety Sparks Spontaneity

As you begin to go deeper, not only will you have greater things in view, you also will see greater variety. You’ll begin to get a glimpse of things you’ve never seen before. Jeremiah 33:3 GWT says, “I made the earth, formed it, and set it in place. My name is the Lord. This is what the Lord says: Call to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you great and mysterious things that you do not know.” The ERV version of that same verse has “…Call to me…” translated as “…pray to me…” Variety keeps anything from feeling uninteresting or mundane.

You are equipped with a tackle box filled with tools! As part of the Armor God’s given you (see Ephesians 6:10-17 for the rest), you’re empowered to “… pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18 NIV Just to name a few, some kinds of prayers, for yourself and others, can be for: Spiritual and National leaders; physical or emotional healing; thanksgiving to The Lord; guidance and protection for children; strengthening relationships; increased knowledge of God to learn His likes and dislikes; and much more! Including prayers of praise in advance, which is what I pray for you, right now, as God plans to cause the magnificent catches of your prayers to bite so you can reel them in!

In this message, you’ve been shipped out to fish in the depths of the ocean. With Christ in you, though having a special regular and quiet prayer place is a good idea, you can pray short or long prayers anywhere you go, in a whisper or aloud. It’s up to you. John 7:38-39 NIV says, “‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive…”  The deep waters are within you! You carry His Spirit around everywhere you go, so you can also pray in a plethora of places! Spontaneity is also the spice of the abundant life gifted to you!

Follow the Captain

“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 NIV

On any deep sea fishing excursion, the route in which the things you most desire to get a hold of or see, needs to be planned. The ocean of life is wide vast and deep. Just as you can only see the corner of the world you’re in at any given moment, and yet view far away destinations in the pages of a magazine, you can only see the current part of your life with some glimpses in pictures of where you’d like to travel towards in the future. Someone who has the waters all mapped out is needed to guide you. As you take time to listen to Jesus and allow Him to lead you, you’ll find and catch those great and mysterious things He’s promised!

By any chance, if conversing with God seems to be falling, or have fallen, by the wayside, go back and pick it up again.  You don’t need extraordinary gifts and talents, only the one and only Supernatural God.  It’s the most peaceful, rewarding, and truly compelling bi-directional conversation to have with our Father in Heaven when you go a little further.   Starting with the few thoughts, mentioned above, in mind can be the fuel that propels you forward into all that God has as Scripture states in 1 Corinthians 2:9, 10 NIV; “’What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’ — the things God has prepared for those who love Him—these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”  Greater awaits in the depths of the Living Waters, accessible through a diverse set of prayer tools, revealing more about who He is, who you are in Him, and the future in store for you!  Reel in your blessings!
