Living In Fear? Learn How To Turn It & Get Fear Working For You!

Normally, when my beloved readers begin to read my blogs, I don’t want you to stop! But, today, I’d like you to pause for about 30 seconds to 1 minute to locate a sheet of paper and a pen. Then come back and finish reading the rest of this article. What you’ll be guided to do will begin to get fear working for you!

Consider your age and stage of life at this moment. Is there something you wish you had of done before now? Maybe it’s to go on that trip to a wildlife safari in South Africa. It could be taking some skill strengthening classes. Or, you’d like to present an unprecedented idea at work, but aren’t sure how your colleagues would react to it. We, as humans, have so many fears. Research shows fears of things like crossing over bridges, flying, and social phobias, preventing doing things in front of or around people, are just a few listed in the top three categories. Fears such as these can make quite an impact upon your life. I certainly know it did for me, before I recommitted my life to Christ. Having once been too afraid to travel alone for much of my life, there are many places I’m just now starting to set my feet upon since being emboldened in The Lord. This fear is, unfortunately, not a positive one.

The side of fear just described is not the kind you were created to live by. It was not placed in your life by God, according to 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Which is the very reason it’s not helpful to you. There’s, however, a flip side of fear. That’s a fear that represents reverence, awe, and respect. Therefore, as long at you use the inherited power, love, & Mind of Christ to turn what, you thought or, was meant for your evil around for the good, it can cause your life to grow and flourish like you’ve never seen before! How can you recognize the difference between the Fear of God and the spirit of fear? Well…

Fear of God Fills You & The Spirit of Fear Empties You
Whatever years the locust and cankerworms ate up in your past that emptied you of your courage, surety, and wholeness will be restored! Proverbs 14:26 tells us that “In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence…” In honoring God in His ways, you will begin to see that He is a faithful God in whom you can trust. John 7:17 Jesus says, “If any man will do His [God’s] will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of Myself.” In other words, God will show Himself to be True as you respect His will and His ways. Learning how to trust and lean on God fills you with dignity and integrity that the spirit of fear can rob you of, leaving you empty, due to trying to do things in your own power.

With the Fear of God, your health is preserved eliminating all the side affects of worry concern and anxiety about things that may or may not happen. And so, you are filled with long life “The fear of the LORD prolongs life…” per Proverbs 10:27. You can rest in The Lord, giving your heart a chance to be freed from being troubled.

Instead of allowing fear to empty you of the chance to step up when called up at the job, Fear of God will fill you with boldness! Psalm 138:3 says, “When I called, you answered me. You made me bold by strengthening my soul.” The spirit of fear will empty you of that chance if you shrink back thinking you’re not ready. So, step forth and trust that God will provide the difference, if any is needed. He did this with Moses in Exodus 4:1-3. Moses didn’t feel adequate to go forth and do what God had prepared him to do for the many years before that. The Lord essentially told him to use what he had in his hand, his staff that would be endowed with God’s power. In awe of God’s awesomeness, Moses began, and now you can too, to see that the…

Fear of God Shifts You Toward Reward & The Spirit of Fear Holds You Back in Regret
Too often the spirit of fear of people, being too concerned about what they may think say or do, as Proverbs 29:25 states, “Fearing people is a dangerous trap…” All too often though, this kind of fear is given to the wrong people, when it’s first and foremost to be given to God. Caring more about what others think or want from you more than what God thinks or want from you can cause you to get stuck, never moving forward. Fear of your own perceived inadequacies, using your own methods and confines of protection and provision in desperation, causing you to regret taking action that never should’ve been taken. Either because you lose trust of others, and/or your own, abilities and decisions. Psalm 112:1 says, “Praise the LORD! How blessed is the man who fears the LORD, Who greatly delights in His commandments.” Take Moses as a perfect model to illustrate this point, who was shifted toward the reward of leading others to freedom from bondage in doing something he had never done before. Another is Abraham who was shifted towards the reward of prosperity in accepting The Lord’s command to go to an unknown land. Beloved, what are the rewards you could be forfeiting because you too are afraid to embark upon doing things you’ve never done or going places you’ve never been? To revisit my traveling experience mentioned above, I lived in my birth state for, thus far, 75% of my lifetime, but learned and experienced more in the last three and a half years of having lived in two different states other than my birth state, as well as traveled to several additional locations. These experiences in having Fear of The Lord shifts you towards the reward of knowledge and wisdom, just as said it would in Proverbs  1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge…” and in Proverbs 9:10 that says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom…”

Seeing the difference between the Fear of God and the spirit of fear, it’s clear you’ve been held back too long! The shift towards reward is calling you to journey outside of the boundaries of your current situation! To begin to turn it and get fear to work for you, write down the following, and act boldly on the results of these considerations:

  1. What do you wish you could do, or have regretted not doing, because the spirit of fear has held you back?
  2. Taking a look at what you fear from a God perspective, what significance level rating can you assign it from a scale from 0 to 5? (0 meaning it’s very insignificant to 5 indicating it’s extremely significant) This helps you to be able to see some beauty in the midst of the battle of fears. For often, a limited human perspective limits the human. God’s perspective widens yours in that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways. Thus, as you begin to reverentially fear The Lord by seeking to know what He may be doing in or through you in certain situations, the fear of other things will begin to weaken & dissipate.
  3. How would your satisfaction with life increase if you faced the spirit of fear with the Fear of God, knowing God has your back?
