Timeless Connection of Prayer

sky-treeIn today’s age, we have a plethora of communication tools: email, text, tweets, cell phones, etc., and with any of them, a blip in the system can cause frantic chaos when we just can’t get a connection with our loved one.  Thank God, we don’t have to rely on human knowledge or innovation to keep in contact with Him.  The same tool and techniques Jesus used when He walked in the flesh upon the earth is the same way we can speak with God about all that is on our hearts today, without concern for technical difficulties. Setting aside time, maybe 10 – 15 minutes daily for starters, to spend quietly with God, takes your prayer to another level by shutting out the noise around you, reading His Scripture, and quieting your mind and spirit to allow God to speak to you.  Although we provide a few tips below, you don’t need formal prayers or special words, simply pour out what’s on your heart whether it be joy or sorrow.  God already knows all your thoughts before they cross through your lips in word.  Jesus hears it all.  And if you ever find a time when you don’t know what to say, sit quietly in His presence, for when “…We do not know what we ought to pray for, …the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans 8:26 NIV God’s sincere desire is to have a relationship with us, and He gave us prayer as a means to a sincere desire to communicate with Him.  In any relationship, communication is key and so it is with God.  You may be thinking, “Well, I don’t have the time to pray”, although, the Word tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT to “pray continually”, it doesn’t mean you have to sit for long hours and pray lengthy prayers each day. Throughout your day, let God know you love Him, need Him in your daily tasks, such as when you’re running late or stressed at work. As soon as you catch that bus or train you were running for say, “Thank you, Lord.”  Pray in your thoughts or under your breath even during a meeting that you desire to go well.  We see an example of this in Nehemiah 2:4,5 NIV“The king said to me, ‘What is it you want?’ Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king…”  Nehemiah, didn’t excuse himself or wait until later, he prayed in an inconspicuous way, and continued his meeting!   Doing this includes God in your life, and what a wondrous difference you’ll see as you acknowledge Him in all your ways!

A Few Tips on Effectual Prayer:

  1. Ephesians 6:18 NIV says: “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”  As you pray, do so with a sincere heart seeking God’s Will, help with struggles & temptations, and understanding for things large and small.  And don’t forget to pray for others as you pray for yourself.
  2. Healthy relationships are reciprocal.  Every now and again, ask God what He desires for you to do for Him, since He’s done so much for you!  Ask for help & guidance to accomplish His purpose in your life.
  3. Give Him Thanks & Praise, for He is worthy to be praised for His enduring love and great deeds!
  4. Combine prayer with action! Prayer shows your belief in God, knowing He hears & answers the prayers of His children, and action shows your faith that He will help you do whatever He guided you to as an answer!

And our prayer for you is that you“…always pray and not give up”  Luke 18:1 NIV and be given ears to hear as God speaks into your heart!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
