“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 KJV
What has God already given you regarding what to do, at this stage, yet hesitation and delay to start lingers, and like Gideon in Judges 6:36-39, you keep asking for more signs? You wait to pursue your dream job because you don’t know if it will be as stable or as long lasting as the one you are currently in, and quite frankly, are no longer fulfilled in. The business you’ve been putting off starting simply because there are details you aren’t quite sure of. You desire to love again, but since you don’t know ALL the ins & outs of the one God sent to you, there’s a rigid air tight barrier instead of a permeable filter that keeps them and all they have to give at a distance. Though rehearsed time and time again to present an unprecedented idea at work because you have an unction that it will boost the company’s upward trajectory, you hesitate at the voice of the little fox in your head whispering “but what if it fails?” In the institution you already own, it’s been lagging behind market trends, and you have been informed by trusted advisors that the company or organization needs to break away from its settled culture, the status quo, to embrace something new. Your response has repeatedly been, though uncomfortably unacceptable in your heart of hearts, “no, what we’ve been doing has reliably sustained us”, when all the time, God doesn’t just want you to be sustained, He wants you to soar! This cycle around the mountain is an indicator that you may have to…
Let Go to Grow
Ecclesiastes 11:3-4 ERV states, “there are some things you can be sure of. If clouds are full of rain, they will pour water on the earth. If a tree falls—to the south or to the north—then it will stay where it falls. But there are some things that you cannot be sure of. You must take a chance. If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds. If you are afraid that every cloud will bring rain, you will never harvest your crops.”
What have you wanted to do that you’ve been afraid to do, because you’re too afraid to lose? Or, what has God been asking you to let go of to free your hands to grasp what He has for you, but you don’t want to lose it? As per Ecclesiastes 3:6 KJV, there’s “a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away”. Consider that the heaviness, stagnation, and the emptiness you feel now could very well be because you’re holding on to something that is to be released. Whereas, if you release it with peace, you’ll find there is more for you! I believe that’s what we can take away from what Jesus says in John 12:24-25 MSG, “Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life…” Jesus was speaking of Himself, His laying down is life to give life to many. For you, in this context, it cautions you against holding on to the current way you do things that may prevent growth in your life in those areas, blocking you from ever seeing the great things in store for you ahead. Sometimes, the very things you are afraid to lose are the seeds you must sow, the seeds you must plant, to bloom forth the plans God has for you. Understand that to be afraid to lose is to be afraid to win; for you cannot legitimately be in something to win if you won’t risk losing. The awesome part is that, with Christ a…
Loss Becomes a Win
“But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord…that I may win Christ” Philippians 3:7-8 KJV
Some loss is willingly given up, and other kinds are unexpected, due to mishaps, missteps, and mistakes. Despite the catalyst, setting your heart against fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of loss, as you walk in step with the Holy Spirit, actually helps you to know more. Part of what is unseen is God Himself. You can’t strive to know everything about every facet of life, but one thing being willing to risk loss will do, is help you to know God better. This is not to encourage you to make haphazard decisions, but to consult God for guidance, for He is eager to lead you along the right paths always. This is an invitation to hand Him what you don’t know, as you go forward in your endeavors, giving Him a chance to show Himself Mighty in and around you. God can’t be seen physically but His presence can be recognized, His loving character can be perceived, and His power can be seen as it works for you, as you challenge that which challenges you, to either prevent loss, or guide you through it. Imagine what the possibilities for your family, your ministry, your business, or whatever it is for you, could be if you don’t let your realm of comfort limit what God can do for you, in you, and through you, even in the face of unwanted outcomes. Also, keeping in mind that God doesn’t define your destiny as one you can do in your own power or might, but only by the help of His Spirit! So it will always seem risky.
It’s a lot less risky to have faith in what is already known. And, though it’s good to repeat what is well established, you must keep in mind that what you know is limited, and thus can restrict you when you choose to only follow a trail that is already blazed. In 1 Corinthians 13:9 it says, “…we know in part, and we prophesy in part.” Meaning it is normal for you to know only bits and pieces, in addition as God gives glimpses of what could be for that which you yet do not know. The shift that’s needed is to begin to believe, to have faith that God-given promises will come to pass as you begin to instruct your feet to tread upon terrains you’ve never seen, nor fully know what will be encountered on the journey. It is only when you open yourself up to what’s beyond what you can see, to bring to fruition what does not yet exist into your presence. This, beloved child of God, is using the creative power you’ve inherited from our Creator! Simply, rest in the fact that, with God, whatever the outcome… you win! When you win, you win; when you lose, YOU STILL WIN! Why? Because in that instance, you may be priZe-less, but you’ve won that which is Priceless… a lesson that’s a blessing as you earned something learned, packed away in your bosom true treasure of wisdom in the ways and the things of God, winning, things not seen, even for losing!
